City man sought in armed robbery

NEW CASTLE — A lower East Side man is being sought after an armed robbery on Court Street.

New Castle police have charged Sanford Jackson Jr., 29, of 715 Locust St. in connection with the noon home invasion, which left a man with head injuries.

Police said when they arrived at the man’s house around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, he was standing on the front porch with cuts on his head and face.

He told police a man he knows only by the nickname Tootie and another man knocked on his door and he thought they wanted to record music, so he let them in.

Tootie walked into the kitchen, the man continued, and asked the resident why he had been talking about him. He then sat down on the living room couch, pulled a gun from his pants and asked where he keeps his money, the man told police.

Tootie ordered him to lie on the floor, then hit him in the back of the head with a gun, he said, and the other man took $100 from the couch pillow and a cell phone from a nearby table.

The victim told officers Tootie then directed him to go into the kitchen, clean himself up and return to put the pillows back on the couch.

Tootie then took a pillow, placed a gun behind it and the man thought Tootie was going to shoot him, so he ran back into the kitchen, he told police.

He said Tootie followed him and the other man stood in the doorway and watched as the two struggled and the gun fired over the victim’s left shoulder. Tootie then dropped the gun and hit the resident in the right cheek, breaking the skin.

The other man picked up the gun and pointed it at the resident, he said. He told police he shouted to the man, “you don’t want to do this,” and the two ran out the back door.

Police recovered the shell casing of a super X .22-caliber bullet from the kitchen floor and noted a bullet hole in the kitchen wall.

Other police officers were aware of Tootie’s identity.

Jackson faces counts of aggravated assault, robbery, possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, theft, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
