NEW CASTLE —
A second man has been charged in what state police are calling a convenience store serial robbery spree.
George Elmer Keller Jr., 34, of 400 Reed Road, Bessemer, has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit theft and receiving stolen property.
Keller has not yet been arrested. Charges were filed before District Judge Jerry Cartwright.
State police said they believe Keller conspired with his nephew, Daniel Matthew Keller, 22, of the same address, in an armed robbery of the D&J Gas and Grocery at 1389 State Route 551 in Little Beaver Township on Oct. 18.
Police said Daniel Keller is in the Lawrence County jail on $50,000 bond.
He was charged with robbery, carrying concealed firearms without a license, theft, receiving stolen property and recklessly endangering another person. He was arrested Oct. 25 by North Beaver Township police after allegedly participating in a similar armed robbery at the K&D Convenience Store on Route 317 in North Beaver Township.
At that time, police said, Daniel Keller is alleged to have entered the store at 6:15 p.m., waving a firearm and demanding money. Police said he fled into the woods, chased by the clerk.
He was apprehended by officers after residents reported seeing a man running between houses on Mount Jackson Road.
According to police, he admitted to participating in the Oct. 18 robbery at the D&J store, said he and his uncle had conspired to commit the robbery and that they had split the money, using it to purchase controlled substances.
Police said the younger Keller is alleged to have entered D&J about 3 p.m. Oct. 18, armed with a revolver. Officers said he is believed to have taken an undetermined of money from the cash register, lottery machine and from two store employees.
Police, who said the pair are suspected in armed robberies of six convenience stores in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, are working with several Ohio police agencies.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of George Elmer Keller Jr. is asked to contact the state police at (724) 598-2211.
