•Cruelty to animals. Police said Patricia Sobun, 57, of 1712 Route 351, Enon Valley, will be charged with three counts of cruelty to animals. Troopers, while assisting the U.S. Marshals Service in a fugitive search at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, appeared at Sobun’s residence looking for a fugitive. While there, they observed emaciated cows and goats tied to trees and without access to shelter, food or water. Police said many of the animals were in need of immediate veterinary care.

•Arrest. Police said Debbie Rae Knight of Twentier Lane, Portersville, was arrested for driving under the influence after being stopped for speeing at 8:07 p.m. Friday om Fountain Avenue in Ellwood City.

•Retail theft. In a report released today, police said a citation was filed with District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson against Christopher Mazocco of 505 Cunningham Ave. after he removed items valued at $74.48 from Wal-Mart in Union Township at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 24.

•Burglary. Someone entered the home of a Hartzell Road, Hickory Township, resident through a sliding glass door between 6:50 p.m. Sept. 30 and 8 a.m. Oct. 1 and removed several pieces of jewelry valued at $2,235.

NEW CASTLE

•Theft. Two Halloween decorations — a 4-foot tall Frankenstein blowup doll and a 4- to 5-foot tall tombstone with ghost blowup decoration — were reported missing at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday from a Chestnut Street home. The resident said she last saw the items at 10:30 a.m. when leaving for work. She returned at 4 p.m. and discovered the decorations had been removed from the front porch.

•Theft. The owner of Bruno’s Auto Sales, 514 Taylor St., reported receiving a bill totaling $983.88 on Monday for purchases he did not authorize. Business owner Dan Bruno called Tire Express, 533 Taylor St., and learned that tires were purchased on Sept. 4, Sept. 9, Sept. 17 and Sept. 28. Police said Matt Nealer of Tire Express told Bruno that Edward Alan “Ragu” Dietrich acquired the tires using Bruno’s account. Dietrich, 20, of 514 Taylor St. did not work for Bruno’s nor have permission to make the purchases, Bruno told police. Dietrich was arraigned Wednesday on charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen goods. He was placed in Lawrence County jail on $5,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 14.
