STATE
•Accident. Police said James J. Birtalan, 18, of New Castle was involved in a one-car crash at 7:14 a.m. Friday on Route 488, west of Richard Street, in Ellwood City. Birtalan was westbound in his 1995 Buick Century west when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and struck a guard rail.
•Theft by unlawful taking. Someone took a diamond ring valued at $699 from the home of a Morris Street, South New Castle Borough, resident between June 7 and 22.
•Criminal mischief. Someone used an unknown object to damage the siding of a Morris Street, South New Castle Borough, resident between 7 a.m. June 25 and 4 p.m. June 28. Damage was estimated at $25.
•Burglary. Two bicycles, valued at $400 each, were taken between noon and 8 p.m. June 23 from a home on Harlansburg Road, Scott Township.
•Accident. A two-car accident took place at 3:35 p.m. June 16 on Rose Point-Harlansburg Road, south of County Line Road, in Slippery Rock Township. Police said Nathan M. Weisenstein, 20, of Ellwood City was driving a 2006 Jeep Compass south on Rose Point-Harlansburg Road. His vehicle reportedly crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2008 Ford F-150, driven by Larry M. Tomczyk, 47, of New Castle. Tomczyk reported minor injuries.
•Accident. Two Portersville residents suffered minor injuries in a one car-crash at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday on Muddy Creek Drive, Clay Township, Butler County. Police said John D. Vedilago, 31, was driving south on Muddy Creek Drive in his 1990 Ford F-150 when the vehicle failed to navigate a right curve. The pickup then struck a utility pole. Passenger Stacy L. Nicholson, 31, and Vedilago were both injured. Vedilago was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
