Police

STATE

•Accident. Police said Herman Hoffmeier, 73, of Enon Valley was westbound on Route 488 in Wayne Township in a 2003 Cadillac De Ville about 1 p.m. Thursday when, in the process of attempting to make a left turn onto Creek Lane, he pulled into the path of Lela A. Eckman, 74, of Beaver Falls, who was eastbound on Route 488 in a 2000 Buick LaSabre. Police said both drivers suffered minor injuries and were transported by Medevac Ambulance to Ellwood City Hospital, where they were treated and released.

•Criminal mischief. Someone threw paint on the front steps of a Rich Avenue, Hillsville, resident’s home between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:20 a.m. Sunday.

•Accident. Police said Robert E. Allen, 51, of New Castle was stopped behind William M. Hauser, 43, of New Castle at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at a traffic light at Route 224 and Winter Road. Both vehicles were in the eastbound lane of Route 224 when the light changed. Police said Allen attempted to drive his 1995 Buick Century onto the south berm to make a right turn onto Winter and struck the right side of Hauser’s 2008 Dodge Caravan. According to police, when the two drivers got out of their vehicles to exchange information, Allen reportedly told Hauser that he did not have insurance, then returned to his car and left. Police do not know if he was injured. Neither Hauser, nor two passengers in his car — 36-year-old Dena L. Hauser or 2-year-old Valerie R. Hauser — were injured.

•Accident. Police said Mark R. Blair, 23, of New Castle suffered a seizure at 6:40 a.m. yesterday while his 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stopped in a parking lot at the southeast corner of routes 108 and 19. Blair was unable to maintain control of the vehicle, which crossed Route 108 and struck a tree. Blair was not injured in the accident.

•Liquor code. The state Bureau of Liquor Code Enforcement cited the Loyal Order of Moose, Ellwood City Lodge No. 93, 1400 Factory Ave., Wayne Township, on May 1. Enforcement officials said the club reportedly sold beer to a nonmember on Aug. 23, 2008.

•Vehicle theft. A 2003 Dodge Dakota, valued at $10,000, was reported stolen between 10:30 p.m. May 25 and 9 a.m. May 26 from a North Beaver Township residence.

ELLWOOD CITY

•Burglary. A Hillside Avenue resident reported that between 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:45 a.m. Sunday someone entered his residence and removed DVDs and a PlayStation.

•Burglary. An unknown person damaged a garage door between 9 p.m. June 1 and 4 p.m. June 2 to gain entry to a Stiefel Park storage unit. Police said a golf cart key was reported missing.

•Burglary. Police attempted to stop an individual who was riding a golf cart through Stiefel Park at 12:20 a.m. Thursday. The cart was taken from a park storage unit. The driver abandoned the cart and fled on foot.

NEW CASTLE

•Theft by deception. A North Jefferson Street restaurant reported at 3:27 p.m. June 1 that two men paid for a meal with a check. The restaurant manager told the pair the business does not accept checks. One male asked to use the business’ phone to call someone to bring money to pay the bill. The two men sat near the front door and left when a another customer came to the counter. The police officer located the offender through phone records. The next day, the officer called the offender’s bank and learned the account was opened June 1 with $2.
