STATE

•Arson. Police said a Volkswagen, reported stolen in New Castle, was recovered at 2 p.m. March 16 in strip mines off Hoffmaster Road in North Beaver Township. Officers said the vehicle had significant fire damage.

•Theft. Police said cash and a surveyor’s tool were taken from a car parked in Hickory View Drive, North Beaver Township, between 4 p.m. Sunday and 8:45 a.m. Monday.

•Attempted burglary. Police said someone tried unsuccessfully to force his way into a Martha Street home in Taylor Township between 5 p.m. Friday and noon on Monday.

•Accident. New Beaver Borough. Police said William J. Kroll, 28, of New Castle, was driving north on Route 168 about 2 p.m. on Tuesday and apparently lost control of his car on a curve. The vehicle crossed the southbound lane, spun and it rolled onto its roof, police said. Kroll was treated at Jameson Hospital and released.

NEW CASTLE

•Burglary. Copper tubing and valves were removed from a vacant house at 1000 Highland Ave. between March 18 and Tuesday. Police said copper tubing had been recovered that morning and was at the city building, and the owner told police he believed it came from that house.
