Huntington Bank branch robbed
A man wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers hat and black sweatshirt robbed the Huntington Bank branch in New Wilmington Tuesday. New Wilmington Police Chief Carmen Piccirillo said the robber, in his late 30s or early 40s, entered the bank at 108 S. Market St. about 2:45 p.m.

City native charged with leaking secrets
A New Castle native and former CIA officer is facing federal charges of leaking government secrets. John Kiriakou, 47, now a resident of Arlington, Va., is charged with violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act and the Espionage Act. A judge at a federal court hearing ordered Kiriakou to be released on a $250,000 unsecured bond.

Update: House fire kills mother, daughter
A woman and her 8-year-old daughter died Friday morning as a fire swept through their Shenango Township home. Lisa Oliver, 30, and Katherine May Thomas, 8, were pronounced dead at the scene at 3:30 a.m. Friday by Lawrence County Deputy Coroner Rich Johnson.

Mother, daughter die in overnight blaze
A mother and child were killed overnight in a house fire on Moravia Street. The blaze erupted bout 1:30 a.m. The victims were found on the second floor and over the dispatch feed a child could be heard sreaming, “she can’t get out!”

ESPN ‘GameDay’ bus rolls into town
ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ bus rolled into town Thursday, turning heads along its route. New Castle became a destination for the specially equipped motor vehicle thanks to local insurance agent Gary Joseph, who won a recent State Farm competition for its use.
