GARY STONE: Trial begins in city parking case

Opening statements by attorneys are expected today in the trial of former city parking manager Gary Stone.

Stone, 34, is charged with theft by failing to make required disposition of funds and access device (credit card) fraud.

A jury of nine men and three women was selected yesterday. Stone is defended by Larry Keith. Deputy state attorney general Anthony Krastek is prosecuting due to a conflict with new Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.

Police filed charges in February 2009 following an almost year-long investigation. Stone is accused of taking $108,156 in parking revenues and illegally obtaining a credit card using the city’s name and using the card to obtain merchandise, services and cash advances totaling $6,391.
