NEW CASTLE —
"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” — Virginia Woolf
We've all been there. Life gets in the way of taking the time to stop and eat. I know I get cranky when I haven't eaten and, if I go too long without nourishment, I can't concentrate.
But, what if we really can't take the time to enjoy a full meal?
Today's post is dedicated to my top five foods-on-the-go that don't come from a drive-thru window.
5. English Muffin or Waffle with Peanut Butter
Pop an English muffin or waffle into the toaster and spread on the peanut butter, which is a source of protein and healthy fats. It only takes about five minutes and you can be out the door. These are especially good for breakfast, but I've been known to have a waffle or two for lunch.
4. Special K Protein Meal Bar
The Special K Protein Meal Bars come in a wide range of flavors and are all quite tasty, especially for being protein bars. Each bar has approximately 10 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. They're are sold in the nutrition aisle at the grocery store, not with the granola bars, cereal bars, etc., though they taste similar, in my opinion.
3. StarKist Single Serve Pouch
I love tuna fish. I could probably eat a tuna salad sandwich every day and be satisfied. I really love the StarKist Single Serve Pouches. They come in a variety of flavors, are reasonably priced, and are under 100 calories. The tuna can be mixed with mayo to make tuna salad or it can simply be added to a tossed salad as a topping. Best of all with tuna pouches, there's no watery mess like there is with a can.
2. Plain Yogurt and Blueberries
My appreciation for yogurt has grown in the last six months or so. It's pretty filling and it's easy to carry on the go. Plus, it's a source of vitamins B6 and B12 and calcium.
1. Cottage Doubles
Oh, how I love these. The pineapple double is so yummy. These small containers cost right around $1 each and are divided in two. On one side there is cottage cheese and on the other, fruit. They come in pineapple, strawberry, peach, and blueberry. I get the 100 calorie versions made by Breakstone's.
Happy travels!

Courtney Caughey-Stambul: Latest ‘Oz’ indeed great and powerful
I stood in line at the movie theater on Friday night, waiting to see "Oz the Great and Powerful" in 3-D. It was the first time in a very long time that I actually had to wait in line to see a film. As I waited, the crowd and a life-sized poster of a wicked witch, her face slightly shadowed, added to my excitement leading up to the start of this movie.
