NEW CASTLE —
Last night for dinner I had a Sloppy Joe sandwich. The Sloppy Joe is one of my favorite meals because it is so easy to make.
Curious about ways to jazz up my old Sloppy Joe recipe of lean ground beef and Manwich, I took to Google. What did I ever do before Google?!?
My number one search result came from the food blog, "Butter and Onions." The recipe appears slightly more complicated than my own. Haha. But, I guess that's why they're referred to as "Fancy Sloppy Joes."

Oh, and just a little warning before you click the link, the photos may make you hungry!
So where did the Sloppy Joe originate and why's it called a Sloppy Joe and not, say, a Sloppy Sam? According to most sources on the web, a cook named Joe first made the sandwich in his café in Sioux City as a variation of the traditional (and popular) loose meat sandwich.
On a sidenote, every time I think about a loose meat sandwich, I think of Roseanne working at the The Lunchbox in Lanford. You too?
OK, on with the Sloppy Joes. How about a Southwestern Sloppy Joe?

Or a Catfish Sloppy Joe? Yes, you read that right.

Now, go get sloppy in the kitchen!

Courtney Caughey-Stambul: Latest ‘Oz’ indeed great and powerful
I stood in line at the movie theater on Friday night, waiting to see "Oz the Great and Powerful" in 3-D. It was the first time in a very long time that I actually had to wait in line to see a film. As I waited, the crowd and a life-sized poster of a wicked witch, her face slightly shadowed, added to my excitement leading up to the start of this movie.
