Courtney Caughey-Stambul: My favorite Christmas movie

NEW CASTLE —  There are so many great Christmas movies, it is difficult to choose a favorite.

I've been watching "Rudolph" every year for as long as I can remember.

As a child, I couldn't wait for "Mickey's Christmas Carol" to air.

"Home Alone" makes me laugh out loud, and sometimes on the right day, even has me shedding a tear or two.

"Christmas with the Kranks" is a more recent favorite of mine. Have you ever thought about skipping Christmas?

They're all great films: "The Grinch," "Elf," "Fred Claus," "It's a Wonderful Life"...

But, if you asked me, "Courtney, what is your favorite Christmas movie of all time?"

I'd be sure to tell you, "A Christmas Story."

Most of us grow up watching our favorite holiday movies and that is precisely how they become our favorites. They are a part of our Christmas traditions. That, however, is not how I fell in love with "A Christmas Story."

Unbelieveable as it may be, I had never heard of Ralphie or a Red Ryder BB Gun until the seventh grade. A few days before holiday vacation, my classmates and I were allowed to choose a movie to watch during our class period. After a vote, "A Christmas Story" won and so I was introduced to the film. The movie had to be split over three classes. I can honestly say, I could not wait to go to class to see more of the movie.

I think what makes "A Christmas Story" one of the most beloved movies of all time is its relatablility. We all know the iconic moments in the film. Ralphie trying on the pink bunny suit from Aunt Clara, swearing in front of his father, getting into a fight with a bully, standing in line to see Santa, and daydreaming about a special present remind us of what it was like being a kid.

I enjoy reminiscing, especially during the holidays.

So if you're searching for the perfect Christmas gift to give me this year, I'd love a leg lamp for my living room window.

"A Christmas Story" airs on TBS for 24 hours straight, starting on Christmas Eve.

I stood in line at the movie theater on Friday night, waiting to see "Oz the Great and Powerful" in 3-D. It was the first time in a very long time that I actually had to wait in line to see a film. As I waited, the crowd and a life-sized poster of a wicked witch, her face slightly shadowed, added to my excitement leading up to the start of this movie.

I love when film critics, entertainment companies, movie sites — whomever — produce lists of their favorite all-time movies. I use MSN Entertainment to look up movie times online. The other day I was checking the site to see which theater in Boardman was going to show "Oz The Great and Powerful."

Have you held or will you hold a garage/yard sale this year?

I have and it was a success! It's a great way to get rid of some junk and make a little extra pocket money.
I have, but it didn't go over so well. Better luck next time?
I haven't yet, but I plan to.
I haven't and I don't plan to. It's not for me.
