Donation day scheduled
New Castle area resident David Croach underwent his second bond marrow transplant Oct. 29. A Donation Day to help Croach has been set for Saturday at First National Bank on Wilmington Road. Hours are 9 to 11 a.m.
Veterans jobs specialist to visit Ellwood City
A veterans employment specialist will visit Ellwood City later this month. Ryan Paglia of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will be at the office of state Rep. Jaret Gibbons, 309 Fifth St., Nov. 19.
Offices will be closed for Veterans Day
Some government and agency offices will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day. Among them are:
New law lifts requirement for military personnel
Gov. Tom Corbett has signed legislation expanding job opportunities for Pennsylvania’s service members.
Sen. Elder Vogel was the prime sponsor of the legislation, Senate Bill 277.
New Visions group to host conversation
A Community Conversation is planned for Thursday in New Castle. The event is being hosted by New Visions for Lawrence County’s Destination Downtown action team.
Free flu shots available as part of safety drill
Free drive-through flu shots will be available Saturday in Neshannock Township and Ellwood City. A limited number of shots, to be administered by licensed Pennsylvania Department of Health officials, will be given between 8 and 11 a.m. at the Neshannock school district bus garage and at the Lincoln High School gym at 501 Crescent Ave.
Veterans program offers fitness classes
VA Butler’s Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Program now offers free, veteran fitness classes five days a week. The classes are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the VA Butler Healthcare Auditorium, first floor, Building 1, 325 New Castle Road, Butler.
Pipeline program set at Westminster
“Pipelines and Pooling: Expanding Natural Gas Issues” will be presented at Westminster College Saturday. Roberta Winters, a former board member of the Pennsylvania League of Woman Voters, will lead the program set for 10:30 a.m. in Room 207 of Patterson Hall.
