Extension to host drinking water clinic
The Lawrence County Extension Office is offering a water testing clinic Feb. 27. The session, from 1 to 3 p.m., will provide information about the basics of testing and protecting drinking water supplies.
Chamber to offer QuickBooks training
The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a half-day class in Advanced QuickBooks. The session is designed for anyone who currently uses the accounting software and will run from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 in the chamber’s conference room at 314 Fifth St., Ellwood City.
Polish pre-Lent event
A Polish-style pre-Lenten celebration — “Karnawal 2014” — is set for March 1. The event will run from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Polish Falcons Hall, 105 W. Miller St. Admission is $6.

Sign inspections may affect traffic
Sign inspections along I-376 in Union Township are planned for next week. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, overhead signs will be inspected Tuesday through Friday at the Union Township exits.
County conservation district to host manure workshops
The Lawrence County Conservation District will conduct two workshops — in February and March — on manure management.
Seminar set for first responders
A seminar for first responders in planned in Lawrence County next month. The Lawrence County Firefighters and Fire Chiefs Association will sponsor the seminar, titled Legal Aspects for First Responders and Fire Commanders.
Blood bank seeks donors to replenish low supply
The Central Blood Bank is reporting a dangerously low blood supply, resulting from the extreme weather. Officials noted Jameson Health System patients use nearly 300 units of blood each month.
Women’s conference set
U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus is sponsoring a women’s conference on work, home and life on Saturday. The conference is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon at the Community College of Allegheny County, North Campus, 8701 Perry Highway.
VA compensation seminar planned
A seminar about compensation benefits for veterans will be offered Feb. 7. The session will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room at the county courthouse.
