Mahoning schedules two more fish frys
The Mahoning Township Volunteer Fire Department has extended its Friday fish dinners beyond the Lenten season. The all-you-can eat event will be conducted two more times — from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and again April 13.

American Legion officer to assist veterans
An American Legion department service officer will be in New Castle Thursday to speak to veterans and their dependents. The officer will be at state Rep. Chris Sainato’s office at 20 S. Mercer St. to answer any questions regarding Veterans Administration and state benefits.

Call-in meeting set on income taxes
U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly will hold a telephone town hall meeting tonight on the filing of individual income taxes. The toll-free telephone meeting will allow constituents to communicate with a liaison from the Internal Revenue Service.

Petition signing party set
The Lawrence County Democratic Party will have a petition signing party at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Moose club. County chairman Richard Christofer said notaries will be available to notarize nomination petitions for candidates.

Union Township to take shelter reservations
Reservations for shelters at Scotland Meadows Park will be accepted beginning Saturday. Residents may apply in person between 8 and 9:30 a.m. at the Union Township municipal building.

Veterans official schedules visit
A representative of the American Legion will visit New Castle Thursday. The department service officer will be at the office of state Rep. Chris Sainato, 20 S. Mercer St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Health fair slated for local veterans
A free veterans health fair has been scheduled for Friday. The program will run from 1 to 3 p.m. on the lower level of the Lawrence County Government Center.

‘Cash Mob’ Saturday: Your $20 can help revitalize downtown
You are cordially invited to be part of a mob Saturday in downtown New Castle. Don’t worry. There’s nothing unsavory afoot. To the contrary, the idea is part of a plan to bring new life to the central business district.

Red Cross to host Laurel blood drive
The American Red Cross will have a blood drive Friday at Laurel High School. The collection will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to all community members.

Attorney, ‘Army’ aid breast cancer victim
Attorney Dallas W. Hartman is reaching out to a Sharon woman battling breast cancer. Adrienne Litman-Toth, 31, was diagnosed in October with the disease. Throughout February, Hartman has pledged to donate $1 for every new “like” on his Facebook page — www.facebook.com/DallasHelps — up to $5,000.
