Workshops planned for local gardeners

NEW CASTLE — There is still time to register for “New Visions for Gardening.”

Sponsored by the Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County, the day-long series of workshops is set for Sept. 14.

The sessions will be conducted at the Ben Franklin Early Learning Center, 815 Cunningham Ave.

Among the topics to be explored are: growing and harvesting garlic, botany of orchids, cool tools and other stuff and putting your garden to bed.

In addition to learning about new garden tools in one session, a workshop called 21 tips will feature quick and easy solutions to problems gardeners face every day.

Pre-registration is required and is $40 per person until Friday. Included in the registration fee is a continental breakfast, lunch, refreshments and a workshop packet.

Walk-ins will be accepted the day of the workshops, but the fee will be $50 and they are not guaranteed lunch or a workshop packet.

More information is available by contacting the Penn State Extension office at (724) 654-8370.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
