NEW CASTLE —
A $927,000 project to replace a bridge on Route 551 in Pulaski Township began this week.
The project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Deer Creek with a new structure including approaches, guide rail and other improvements on Route 551 between Topper Hill Road and Route 208.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Route 551 will be closed in the bridge area through early August. Local residents are encouraged to find alternate routes.
The official detour northbound will have motorists take Route 422 east to I-376. From there, they will travel west on I-376 to Route 208. The detour continues west on Route 208 until the intersection with Route 551.
The southbound detour is the same in the opposite direction.
The prime contractor for the project is Mekis Construction Corp. of Fenelton.
