NEW CASTLE —
Two subjects will be covered Friday at a veterans benefits seminar.
The sessions will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room at the Lawrence County courthouse.
At 2 p.m., the program will look at supportive services for veteran families.
Missy Russell, veterans program coordinator for Lawrence County Community Action Partnership, will be the speaker. She will provide information to assist veterans who are facing a housing crisis or need help to get back on their feet.
At 3 p.m., Brad Schaffer will discuss the veterans justice outreach program.
The program within the Department of Veterans Affairs provides outreach to veterans involved in the local justice system, including police, jails, probation, parole and the courts. The goal is to provide timely access to VA services for eligible veterans to prevent homelessness and avoid unnecessary criminalization while providing routes to health care services aimed toward a lasting rehabilitation and independence.
More information about the program is available by contacting the Lawrence County Veterans Affairs office.
