City folks need to tie garbage bags

NEW CASTLE — New Castle residents: Tie your bags.

Garbage bags, that is.

City public works director Michael Rooney has issued a second reminder that residents need to have their blue garbage bags tied tightly. He said some residents fill the bags up to the top and leave them untied. As a result, the garbage spills out.

Rooney said city sanitation crews will not pick up any garbage that spills onto the sidewalks or streets.

He added that if residents place any recyclable materials in plastic bags, those bags should be tied as well.
