Electronics recyclings scheduled

NEW CASTLE — Tri-County CleanWays, in partnership with the Lawrence-Mercer Recycling/Solid Waste Department, has announced two collections for recycling electronics.

The collections will be:

•9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 24 in New Castle

•9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 26 in Mercer

Items will be accepted by appointment only. Anyone interested in registering for either collection must call the recycling department at (724) 658-6925 to make an appointment. The program is open to anyone, regardless of where they live.

Televisions, computers and their accessories — including monitors, towers, hard drives, scanners, printers, mice, keyboards and speakers — cellphones, VCR and DVD players, radios, sweepers, microwaves and small miscellaneous electronics will be accepted. There is a $20 fee for cars and SUVs. A pickup truck load of items is $30.

Smaller items containing Freon — such as dehumidifiers and window air conditioning units — are an extra $20 each.

The collections are cash only.

These two events are part of a series of electronics collections scheduled throughout 2014. More information is available by visiting the department’s webpage at Future recycling collections and other opportunities to get rid of hard-to-recycle items can be found on the calendar of events there.

Questions about the program can be directed to the Lawrence-Mercer County Recycling/Solid Waste Department at (724) 658-6925 or via e-mail
