NEW CASTLE —
United Way of Lawrence County has reached 87 percent of its campaign goal.
Member agencies, board members and campaign cabinet members met for a campaign report luncheon at First Presbyterian Church.
The campaign to date is $368,750 and the goal is $425,000.
Megan Monstwil, of the Lawrence County Association for Retarded Citizens reviewed the programs provided for people with disabilities in this area. The agency works with individuals from birth to 3 years old, going into their homes to teach caregivers how to help with development delayed children. The agency provides recreational activities such as shopping, movies and sport activities for their clients.
Special recognition was given to Norm Moses, executive director of Lawrence County Association of Retarded Citizens, for his more than 30 years of service.
A breakdown of contributions to date include $6,240 from local banks; $5,200 from the industrial division; $8,000 from the leadership division; $16,661 from the public affairs division; $3,450 from retail and $5,000 from utilities, including $1,200 from the Pennsylvania American Water Co.
