Granges plan various events

NEW CASTLE — Granges in Lawrence County have announced the following plans and activities:

•Liberty Grange will sponsor an open house luncheon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to attract new members. The grange hall is at 3067 Harlansburg Road in Scott Township.

•Pomona Grange will celebrate its 100th anniversary at the all-granger banquet at 6:30 p.m. April 26 at Mahoning Valley Grange hall, 128 Skyhill Road in Mahoning Township. State grange master Carl Meiss will be the speaker. Attendance awards will be presented to grange members of 25 and 50 years and higher.

•The Pomona family activities committee will sponsor a sewing day starting at 10 a.m. April 27 at Mahoning Valley Grange. Dignity shirts for cancer patients will be among the projects.

•The Lawrence County Junior Grange will meet from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 at the Mahoning Valley Grange hall to make stuffed toys for hospital patients.

•The annual Pomona Grange visitation program is planned for 10:30 a.m. May 4 at the New Castle Public Library. A tour of all the departments will be conducted.

•Liberty Grange hosted the recent family activities meeting and the Pomona meeting. Patty Lou Pardee of Crawford County, a member of the state grange family activities committee, discussed the new contest categories and emphasized the need to follow all contest rules to avoid having entries disqualified. Jose Carrio and Keith Karasik of Carrio, Karasik Associates, financial consultants, presented a program about investment options.
