NEW CASTLE —
Westminster College will host an all-school public meeting Sept. 20 to discuss leasing of college property for shale drilling.
The school has the potential to lease 300 acres on campus for Marcellus and Utica shale. Details will be offered at the meeting, which will take place at 4 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

Churches, VFDs host Lenten meals
Here’s a list of places you can find local fish dinners March 5 throughout the Lenten season.
Toomey’s staff to hold local casework event
Tuesday is a casework day in New Castle with the staff of Sen. Pat Toomey. The session, at the office of state Sen. Elder Vogel, 1904 W. State St., will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Veterans services guidance offered
Two subjects will be covered Friday at a veterans benefits seminar. The sessions will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room at the Lawrence County courthouse.
Red Cross offers session on lifesaving training
The American Red Cross will offer a course in lifesaving skill in New Castle next month.
Session scheduled to assist veterans
A representative of the American Legion will be in New Castle Thursday. The department service officer will be in state Rep. Chris Sainato’s office, 20 S. Mercer St.
Pavilion rental date set
Saturday is the first day to reserve pavilions in Scotland Meadows Park for the summer season.
Red Cross schedules blood drives in county
Extreme weather this winter has forced the cancellation of various Red Cross blood drives in western Pennsylvania. As a result, thousands of units of blood were not collected.
Program will get rid of unwanted drugs
The Lawrence County District Attorney is providing a year-round drug take-back program to help dispose of unwanted prescription medication.
Castleview plans spring cleaning
Plans are being made for spring cleaning at Castleview Memorial Gardens. Maintenance will be starting the cleanup of the cemetery grounds March 1, weather and burials permitting.
Education chief to speak at annual chamber dinner
The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will have its annual dinner March 12. The event, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, will feature Carolyn Dumaresq, Pennsylvania’s acting secretary of education, as the keynote speaker.
