NEW CASTLE —
Mahoning Township will have a fall cleanup beginning Sept. 24.
Township officials said items to be collected are to be placed at the curb the day before the collection is scheduled — no sooner. They also said items must be placed neatly in bags or bundled.
Residents of mobile home parks must place their items at the entrances. Crews will not enter the parks.
The township will not accept plate glass, perishable, garbage items, batteries, tires, paint cans, large amounts of wood or anything longer than 10 feet.
Refrigerators or air conditioners will not be accepted unless the Freon has been professionally drained and the appliance is tagged.
The pickup schedule to be followed is:
•Sept. 24 — Hillsville including East and West Main Street, Churchill Road to Bessemer-Hillsville Road, Rich Avenue, Carbon area, West State Street east from the Ohio line to Churchill Road, including Quaker Heights and Johnson Circle.
•Sept. 25 — Overlook Drive, Francis Drive, Churchill Road to the river, West State Street from Churchill east, Rachal Road, Carbon-Micco Road, Arena Road, and Hilltop and Butch estates.
•Sept. 26 — Miller Farm Road, Mohawk School Road, Edinburg, North Edinburg Road south, Countryside Mobile Home Park, West State Street east of Hilltop Estates.
•Sept. 27 — North Edinburg, the eastern section of the township including Benjamin Franklin Highway, the Harbor, Sankey Run Road, North Edinburg Road north, Twilight and Devite mobile home parks.
•Sept. 28— Zoccoli Mobile Home Park, North Edinburg Road to the township line, Mathews Road, Denny Drive, Garner Road, Five Points Road, Zoccoli Road, Palmer Road.
•Oct. 1 — Ambrosia Road, Skyhill Road west to Hillsville Road, Baird Road, Hillsville Road, Coffee Run Road.
•Oct. 2 — Evergreen Road, Skyhill Road from Hillsville Road west, Butch Circle, McBride Road, Carlisle Road.
•Oct. 3 — Erskine Quarry Road, Graham Road, River Road and Jacobson Road.

Memorial service scheduled
The annual Croton Memorial Service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Croton Honor Roll. U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly will be the guest speaker.

Lawrence County 4-H is starting a new bowling club. The club is open to beginning bowlers or those who have bowling expertise.

Mixer planned to meet candidates for primary
The Lawrence County Young Republicans will have a meet-the-candidates mixer in anticipation of the May 21 primary. The session will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at the Crane Room, 3009 Wilmington Road.

Shenango class to hold luncheon
Shenango High School’s class of 1962 will meet for lunch Thursday. The group will gather at 1 p.m. at Chuck Tanner’s Restaurant.

Historical society features CCC
America’s Civilian Conservation Corps, “the tree soldiers,” turns 80 this year. In celebration of this milestone, the CCC will be featured at Wednesday’s meeting of the Lawrence County Historical Society.

Mahoning Township has scheduled a spring cleanup for this month. Items will be picked up during the weeks of May 6 and 13. Residents are to place all items at curbside on the day before their scheduled collection only.
