Lucky customers pay only 44 cents a gallon for gas

CNHI News Service

— A few lucky motorists struck it rich Wednesday when a pump malfunctioned and gas was selling for 44 cents a gallon.

Due to a technical error that lasted nearly two hours, premium pumps at a Marathon station in Indiana were priced roughly $4 below where they should have been.

When station operators figured out what was happening, the pumps were shut off. By that time, though, customers had driven away with about 50 underpriced gallons  — about a $200 loss, said station owner Sunny Singh.

Other motorists, who had been alerted by social media postings, were waiting in line when the  pump was shut down.

Brittany Neal said she felt she should have been compensated for waiting in line. "At this point, I'd even be nice and take it for a dollar (a gallon),” she said.
