Lori Brothers: Christmas traditions vary around the country

NEW CASTLE —

  • 2 pounds red plums, stoned and quartered
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Place plums in an 8-inch by 8-inch glass baking dish. Combine cornstarch and sugar and sprinkle over the plums. In a medium bowl, stir oats, brown sugar, flour, butter and oil. Scoop mixture on top of fruit. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until brown on top and fruit is bubbling.

Serves 6.
