Health issues or other difficult life circumstances are more manageable when you can start each day fresh with hope.
German philosopher Meister Eckhart said, “Be willing to be a beginner every single morning.” This is excellent advice! Fresh eyes, ears, attitudes and willingness of heart can bring new experience and new results.
One of the wonderful advantages of the work I do is having positive conversations with people who are on a medical diet, and also learning other lifestyle modifications to improve their health. Many of life’s challenges may not be what was planned, but can be the adventure towards wisdom and countless treasures.
Depending on the severity of health concerns, sometimes what others view as drastic measures can be the recovery of health and quality of life for others. This can include modifying diets, changing jobs, moving to a new location or choosing a specialized surgery.
Developing a life philosophy to live by to support yourself is good medicine while you are walking your walk through life. Others’ philosophies can be supportive and inspirational as well.
Sometimes you think you are on one path, suddenly, you find yourself heading into unfamiliar territory. Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken,” depicts the image of choosing the alternate path: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
Choosing differently can make all the difference, even if it doesn’t go along with the crowd. Choosing new approaches and implementing methods that others would never consider may be exactly what could make all the difference in your healthy outcome.
The truth is, you may have never considered a choice that could now make all the difference in your quality of life and sense of well-being.
Sometimes we don’t even consider what well-being is — until we don’t have it. The value of coming to know what you value, and also what you can achieve, has its own merit. Life circumstances can help us to determine who we are, and who we want to become. No matter how challenging, if you meet it with determination, you can succeed as you learn along the way.
Whether you are traditional, or embarking on the untraditional, starting each day with a sense of adventure for what you will meet, and what you can achieve, can greet any challenge with the attitude of living well. This kind of opening to the new is like opening a window or door to allow the infinite possibilities of life to become available.
Creating new habits can be stepping stones to overcoming insurmountable odds. Daily miracles are possible when you start each day focused on the possibility that you can accomplish, with positive intent and consistent action, the highest good for yourself and your life.
American essayist and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right.”
So what will you say to the critics — even the ones in your own mind? In the choice to take and make your own path, you may encounter hecklers, judges, critics, ney-sayers. Ultimately, you create your own adventure, if you have the courage to choose it.
Cook tortellini according to package directions. Rinse under cold running water.
Place sugar snap peas in a small bowl; cover with plastic wrap. Microwave at High 2 minutes. Let stand, covered, 2 minutes. Rinse under cold running water.
Thread each skewer with 1 sugar snap pea, 1 tortellini and 1 tomato half. Place skewers in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Pour Mustard-Dill Vinaigrette over skewers, turning to coat. Cover and chill 4 hours. Transfer skewers to a serving platter; discard any remaining vinaigrette.
Whisk together vinegar, dill, Dijon mustard, garlic, and sugar. Add olive oil in a slow and steady stream, whisking constantly until thoroughly combined. Whisk in salt and pepper to taste.
*A bottled fat-free honey mustard dressing can replace the vinaigrette if you are on a low-fat diet.
Note: As a time saver, you can opt to toss salad ingredients in a bowl with 1/2 cup of dressing just before serving. Spoon into a pretty bowl and garnish with dill sprigs.
