I have a closet full of coats and accessories for winter. Because we have to suffer through this season in our part of the world, I like being able to change up my style with a few simple tweaks. And it's easy for you to do the same- even on a limited budget. So many stores offer inexpensive coats these days from Old Navy to Forever 21 to Wet Seal that it's easy to have a few that you can reach to. On the right you'll see a few examples of different styles you can show off.
The first is a classic. A gray peacoat is staple year in and year out. When paired with other classic accessories, like a knit hat, leather gloves, and plaid scarf you will look timeless. Tall, black (waterproof!) boots add to this style for a clean and crisp look. I picture this look worn with dark skinny jeans tucked into the boots and a white button down shirt on top.
The second look is much more girly. A cape is such a dramatic and pretty alternative to a coat. Especially when paired with classic ear muffs and a snood in faux fur. A pretty bow glove and tall (faux) fur lined boots are the perfect finishing touches. Wear this look with white skinny jeans (yes, even in winter), and a beautiful soft cashmere sweater.
The final look is for when you're feeling sporty. A cute beanie hat mixed with optional fingerless mittens (for putting on your ski gear) and a chunky black scarf (with subtle details) looks perfect with a sleek puffer coat. Warm lace up boots are the best compliment. Wear this when you're out hitting the slopes (or sledding!) in your ski pants and long john shirt.
