Sarah Stright-Hartley: Headed to the beach? Cover up in style!

NEW CASTLE — With summer now in full stride, all I can think about is spending my days at a beach or pool.

When the weather heats up, nothing but cool water can make me feel like I'm not actually going to melt into a puddle. Each year I seem to add another bathing suit to my collection but I never really think about those easy beach cover-ups that are much cuter than my T-shirt and jean shorts that I seem to slip on to go eat or head home.

And, of course, nothing is worse than wet jeans shorts.

So at the request of a reader, I took a look at some of the beach cover-up options to see what was available and let's just say, I'd like to add ALL of those at right to my closet.

My favorite thing about the beach cover-up market is that there are so many options! You can be bohemian, girly, classic, and you can buy anything from a dress to an easy top. Personally, I love a romper look (like numbers 1 and 4). I think they're adorable and perfect for the beach.

Yes, going to the bathroom can be a bit more tricky but it's just the price we pay for cuteness, right?

Easy strapless dresses like 2 and 3 are comfortable and acceptable for having lunch in a restaurant while still wearing your bathing suit underneath. Cute oversized tops (numbers 5, 6, and 7) are perfect for shading yourself from the sun while hanging out in the sand or running a quick errand. These aren't generally as useful for having a quick bite in a restaurant since they don't cover your lower half, but just throw a pair of linen shorts in your bag too and you're good to go.

What type of beach cover-ups do you wear?

Do you remember being told, “don’t play with your food” when you were a child?  Or maybe you’ve said this to your own children or grandchildren. I’ve heard stories about kids slipping food under the table to the dog or stuffing Brussels sprouts into their pockets to get out of the pain of eating them.
