Sarah Stright-Hartley: ‘With child’ doesn’t have to mean without style

NEW CASTLE — Over the past month we've talked about wedding styles for women and wedding styles for men. I didn't want to leave out my pregnant ladies!

Dressing for a wedding during the hottest months of the year while you're pregnant can be understandably difficult. But as the years go on, there are plenty more fantastic options for maternity style out there. Many stores are now offering maternity styles alongside the standard clothing.

If you look to the right, you'll see options for maternity looks at three different types of weddings.

First is the casual wedding — this especially works for an outside wedding. You'll want to be nice and cool and still look seasonally appropriate.  This floral sleeveless dress is perfect for the occasion. Adding a statement necklace, coordinating clutch, and pretty flats complete the look. And since you'll be outside, consider taking a cute cardigan to throw over the dress if you get chilly.

The second look is for the more formal wedding. You can't go wrong in a little black dress — especially one with a lace detail on the sleeves. It's easy to wear and no matter the accessories you pair it with, it'll look classy. Consider using nude accessories — a necklace, kitten heel shoes, and pretty clutch. Black and nude is such a beautiful combination! Adding in extra gold details amps up the look.

Finally, a black tie wedding can be a bit more difficult, but still absolutely possible. This plum colored satin dress with its high waist band will accommodate your growing belly. And then? Pile on the diamonds (real or faux)!

A long diamond necklace is perfect with the plunging neckline, diamond stud earrings don't overpower the necklace, and a beautiful wide diamond bracelet adds flair to your wrist. Pair the diamonds with simple silver low heels (the lower size is perfect for dancing the night away) and you're ready to show off your glow to the wedding guests.

Do you have any tips for maternity wear at weddings?

Do you remember being told, “don’t play with your food” when you were a child?  Or maybe you’ve said this to your own children or grandchildren. I’ve heard stories about kids slipping food under the table to the dog or stuffing Brussels sprouts into their pockets to get out of the pain of eating them.
