NEW CASTLE —
I hate to be the one to say this, but it's getting colder.
So cold that over the weekend I actually said the words "I think I'm going to have to buy a winter coat soon.”
So cold that I noticed the weather man saying the "S" word while describing the upcoming forecast.
I have a few different winter coats in my closet that I usually switch up each year, but this year I have to get a new one due to the baby growing in my belly. So while I'm out shopping the maternity section, I've gathered up some great non-maternity coats from three of my favorite stores — all owned by one company, all with very different price points. (see the examples on the right.)
If you're on the "saving" end of the budget spectrum, consider the coats at Old Navy. They're well made, warm, and come in great styles. They offer everything from traditional peacoats to warm puffer and quilted coats. I also love that most of the coats come in a variety of colors so that you can choose one that speaks to you best. With a range between $42 and $75, these are among the lower prices that you'll find when shopping for a winter coat.
If you're a mid-level spender, check out Gap. Many of the same styles as Old Navy but with a more classic look and they are usually made to hold up a bit longer than Old Navy. I personally love the military style look of the first coat I'm showing, and the color-blocking of the second coat. These are coats that you'll be able to keep for a few years in your closet both because of the quality and because of the classic style.
If you're looking for an investment coat, I definitely suggest Banana Republic. Yes, they're definitely on the higher end of price points, but these are coats that you don't get rid of for years and years. Banana Republic offers ultra classic, ultra stylish, and very well made clothing — and their coats are no different. The details on their coats are usually what sell me, like the bow detail on the first coat I've shown.
If you have it in your budget, maybe consider a couple different coats from a couple of the different stores. A trendy puffer vest from Old Navy and a classic wool coat from Banana Republic so that you'll have options come winter.
But for now, let's keep thinking fall and make no mention of the dreaded "S" word.
