Your Tax Money: Route 422 off-ramp to Route 168 closes

NEW CASTLE — The ramp from the eastbound Route 422 bypass to Route 168 in Taylor Township will close Monday.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the closure will be long term.

Crews will continue reconstruction work under way on eastbound Route 422 to improve clearance at the interchange.

The eastbound off-ramp to Route 168 will be closed through late January. In addition, eastbound Route 422 will continue to be reduced to a single lane in the interchange area.

The official detour will take traffic east on the Route 422 bypass to Route 65. From that exit, vehicles will return to Route 422 westbound and use the westbound exit to Route 168.

Motorists are advised to use caution and slow down when traveling through the area.

The ramp reconstruction is part of a $19.7 million project started last year to improve 10.5 miles of Route 422.

The prime contractors for the project are the Trumbull Corp. of Pittsburgh in a joint venture with Lindy Paving Inc. of New Castle.
