Sarah Stright-Hartley: Yes, black is back — even in the summer

NEW CASTLE — Temperatures are soaring and we've definitely entered summer.

I'll admit, summer is my least favorite time of year. I hate the heat, I especially hate the humidity, and I hate that I can't comfortably layer (my favorite way to dress). Let's also throw in that black isn't exactly the best color to wear in the summer.

But, I'm here to tell you it isn't impossible. If you're a fan of the heat holding shade, just look to the right for a few examples of how to comfortably wear black in the summer.

In the first look take advantage of the romper trend. This romper is lightweight and the detail down the front works well for concealing any tummy you may want to hide. I added simple sandals and a statement necklace to complete the look. But this outfit would work just as well for a night out.  Just switch out the sandals for heels and add some red lipstick and you're ready to go!

The second look is great for a date or a party in the summer. I'm the first to say that I'm not a fan of pink, but I love the bubblegum pink accessories with the all black clothing. The pink heels and clutch brighten up the look and make it party ready. The crop top and flared skirt are the perfect way to keep cool (and on trend) for the season.

Finally, the third outfit is the perfect summer casual style. A long tunic tank and leggings are the epitome of comfort (I'll repeat again — leggings are not pants, so cover your personal areas!). Add in flip-flops and a large floppy sunhat and you'll be ready for a day at the beach, a day of running errands, or having lunch with friends.

Are you a fan of black in the summer?
