Sarah Stright-Hartley: One dress, three ways to wear it for a wedding

NEW CASTLE — With summer around the corner, we're heading into wedding season.

Whether you're going to one wedding or five, finding the right dress is always a bit tricky — especially if you're on a budget. My suggestion? Buy one dress that works for all occasions and accessorize it appropriately for any weddings you have coming up.

If you look to the right, I've taken one dress and made it appropriate for three very different types of weddings — an outdoor/casual wedding, a semi-formal wedding, and a formal wedding.

The first outfit is great for an outdoor wedding. The floral pattern is perfect for summer. A flat, dressy sandal is great for an outdoor wedding because you don't have to worry about your heels sticking in the ground, and your feet won't hurt while you dance the night away. I also think this is the perfect time to play around with your accessories. Wear a bold necklace in a color that complements the dress. Using a darker shade of your necklace in a clutch makes the look feel cohesive. If you get cold at night, throw on a cute cape!

For a semi-formal wedding, the color of this dress is also very appropriate. I think this is a time to still have fun with your accessories, but in a more subtle way. The shoes I've paired with the dress are both classic, and fun. The black and gold makes them feel classic, but the style makes them more fun. The chunky gold necklace is bold, but still complementary and appropriate. And the gold clutch pulls it all together and keeps you looking chic.

Finally, the formal wedding. To make this dress more appropriate, put on a chic black blazer over the dress. A cropped blazer feels very on trend while still being suitable for the formal nature of the wedding. Strappy silver sandals and pretty chandelier earrings dress up the look even more and the simple black clutch completes it. You'll be formal enough for the bride and groom but still able to show your personality through your outfit.

Local peaches may be scarce in Lawrence County this summer. County fruit farmers are watching their peach trees closely, not sure how badly they were damaged by the winter’s extreme cold.

Do you remember being told, “don’t play with your food” when you were a child?  Or maybe you’ve said this to your own children or grandchildren. I’ve heard stories about kids slipping food under the table to the dog or stuffing Brussels sprouts into their pockets to get out of the pain of eating them.
