NEW CASTLE —
Maxi skirts seemed to be a summer staple the past few years. But have you considered wearing them in the fall as well?
Granted, when there is a foot of snow on the ground, they may not be the best choice. But while the leaves are changing colors and we're celebrating the cooler weather, they can be a wonderful option.
If you look to the right, I've put together a few ways to transition your maxis into the fall season. Before we start, look for maxis that are in pretty fall colors — dark reds and greens, and in heavier fabrics to keep you warm in our fickle Pennsylvania weather.
For the date-night look, I chose a fitted maxi skirt in a beautiful shade of green. I like the idea of a simple T-shirt with it and then glamorous accessories. The long gold chain necklace and oxford heels make the look very cool-girl chic. The brown leather jacket looks modern with the black T-shirt and the brown and black bag pulls the whole look together.
For the work look, I like the idea of a patterned blouse with the red skirt. A blazer over the top for the formal office (or if you're cold) makes the look extra professional. The simple accessories — black bag, black watch, and black shoes allow the pretty pattern in the shirt to stand out. The colors in both the shirt and skirt are very reminiscent of fall.
Finally, the casual look is very cool and extra comfortable for a day of lunch, running errands, or hanging out with your girlfriends. I liked the idea of keeping a fairly monochromatic color palette. The pretty taupe skirt matches well with the cream, off-shoulder shirt and tan bow belt. The accessories also follow the color scheme with the tan hat, and brown bag.
I finished it off with a pop of leopard print pattern in the shoes to add some visual interest when you catch a glimpse of them.
