NEW CASTLE —
Orthopedic surgeon Robert McGann will give a free presentation on the benefits of a new hip and knee material.
McGann, a doctor with Lawrence County Orthopedics, will be discussing the Smith and Nephew 30-year Verilast hip and knee. The session will begin at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at AIR Physical Therapy and Fitness, 1807 Mercer Road, Ellwood City.
The new replacement material is tested to simulate 30 years of wear performance, he said, adding that is more than twice the length of replacements made with traditional materials.
A common issue with replacements is wear, McGann explained. As the surfaces of the implant rub together, tiny fragments of plastic and metal wear off. He said Verilast is the only technology that uses advanced, low-friction surfaces for both sides of the knee joint.
Those wishing to register may call Dan Zelch at AIR Physical Therapy and Fitness at (724) 758-3338.
