Anthony J. Mundziak


Anthony J. Mundziak, 83, of 1435 W. Division St., New Castle, died the evening of Dec. 9, 2009, in his residence.

Born June 15, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Anthony and Olga Motrynick Mundziak. He was married for 58 years to Edith A. Gostyla. She died on Feb. 3, 2008.

He was Roman Catholic.

Anthony worked for Universal Rundle Corporation as a kiln operator and retired with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Name Society and the men’s choir. Anthony was a former member of Madonna Church.

He enjoyed working with wood, doing carpentry and remodeling for family and friends. Anthony also enjoyed making homemade polish kielbasa during the holidays. He loved gardening and going polka dancing with his wife and friends over the years.

Anthony was an veteran of World War II. He was inducted Oct. 31, 1945, and served as a Corporal with the Military Police in the Pacific until he was honorably discharged Dec. 10, 1946. He received the Philippines Independence Ribbon for his service.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond J. and Shelli Mundziak, of Overland Park, Kan., and Ronald A. and Carolyn Mundziak, of Pataskala, Ohio; a sister, Genevieve (Jenny) Pszenny, of New Castle; and six grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Mundziak and Frank Mundziak, and a sister, Helen Harper.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St.

A blessing service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The New Castle Area Vetterans Honor Guard will perform military rites at 10:45 a.m. The Rev. Frank Erdeljac and Deacon Dan Kielar will co-officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery.
